Magic Cards

Hello..

I didn't play today, I was too tired due to staying up all night the night before in an attempt to get my sleeping pattern back to a decent time. Since I woke up at 4pm on Tuesday, I decided to not sleep that night and then have an early night on Wednesday, and it kinda worked. I am actually a student and its half term break. Not just a bum that sits at home waking up in the afternoon and watching day time TV. Hence the blog tittle, 'The View From The Afternoon'. (also a song tittle from a band that I like).

I did play a little live MTT that I managed to come 2nd in. The structure is pretty shit but it was a matter of time until I won a few flips deep and tonight was the night. £45 for 2nd which is okay, it's a bit silly how I'm so short for cash but don't withdraw. But I can't exactly withdraw into my dad's account, cos he doesn't like gambling. That sure is going to be a fun day when I say 'erm I got some money in an account in your name...'. And I also want to leave money online to speed up my shot at the next level.

I decided to treat myself to some card and chip modifications to make my PS tables look the shit, using a little bit of money from my small sports bet win. Best investment ever. You got a set? I don't care lets jam the flop, oh bink there's my spade. You wanna suck out on me my hitting your 2 outter on the turn? Unlucky cos I hit the 1 outer river. I had my best session for a while, 5buyins in about 700 hands. Ran well and played well. Strange though cos if I lose those races I'm like maybe I'm just not that good, and when I win it's like 'easygame'.

Annoyed that I didn't get more volume, supernova still looks miles away. I think as long as I'm still in with a shout of it come September I'll be happy enough. I can always mega grind for a few months or so.

Saturday is my friends birthday so that looks like a good night, providing I get rid of this cold. Probably be for the best if my laptops well out of the way for when I get in, an intoxicated session will not look so good when I click 'refresh' on my graph the following morning.Night.

Swings

Another swingy day today. This time I was up a couple of buy ins, then ended up down a buy in before finishing up about 70$. I'm pleased with my volume, I've been trying hard to get hands in. If I get off to a good start I get really tempted to just end it there and do something else, and then if I do carry on I'm not really focused on it, and that's how I wind up losing.

This month has been frustrating so far. Poker's strange though because when you're running bad you think 'maybe this is normal and I was just running hot before' and then when you're winning you don't want to put the volume in cos you know the coolers await you... I'm still up about 6buyins so far for the month, and I was messing about and looked at my hourly which was 9$ - clearly ballin, it's not great but it's still slightly more than working in a super market. Hopefully the second half of the month will be better for me.

Supernova is probably not going to happen if I have to play at 50nl all year. Hopefully I can move up to, and stay up at 100nl before my birthday in June. I think it would be a decent achievement if I could be rolled for 100nl by the time I'm 18.

Going to watch series 2 of the office now because it's a good laugh and I'm full of a cold and feeling a little bit shit, it should cheer me up a bit anyway. Cya

Grind

I got in some good volume today. Off to a bad start with a couple of coolers and then played well to grind it back plus some for about 2k hands. It always feels nice to be stuck and then get back to 0<. Feels a lot better than being up and then finishing at 0 anyway. Even though in reality it's just the same. My roll is back in 4 figures now and this time its 100% mine. I haven't really given much thought for when I want to take a shot at 100nl, probably with around 25-30 buyins I'd imagine.

50nl is really easy. I ran bad today and still managed to profit. Called down in spots where I should've folded as well. I've been continuing to bluff rivers big, with decent success. For a long time I didn't like bluff shoving rivers. Say pot is 35$ effective stacks are 30$.. this shove only needs to work 50% of the time to be +EV. So the people who will bet call check call check fold, are the ones who I am going to be putting to the test. I did get looked up really really light and incorrectly imo by somebody I presumed to be a decent reg.

I've been made offers from several universities so over the next few weeks I'm going to be going to look round each one. I will probably write about what I see.

I still didn't get round to watching Catch me if you can (that would be a cool SN btw), and it doesn't look likely as its 3am already and I'm supposed to be up early in the morning to go shopping in Manchester - which is a bout 50 mins from my town that's called Wigan.

Time for bed now. Cya.

Up Down

I got of to a flyer and shipped a nice sized pot with a set. Donking out - you know it! So I was -$90 for the day. But that was as good as it got, I then went alllllll they way down to -$260, and at this point if I'd have bothered to check my BR I mighta dropped down to the shark filled waters that is 25nl. I didn't really play bad, I got caught bluffing with big bets on the river but I still think that the bets were easily +EV versus the range I'd put them on. I also pussied out of making the river shoves as well once or twice when it would've been +EV to do so. Mainly cos I was sub-consciously scared I'd get called..I was getting to used to being looked up with Top pair no kicker by this point.

After toiling away all day I was back to where I began at -$160. The clock got to midnight, new day, I win $200 in about 1k hands, and I'm back to where I was when I chopped with Matt.Eazy game. Well, I'm a little up actually as I got a 40$ bonus that PS are giving away as part of the 40billion hands milestone.

I've also decided to go for supernova. I'm not 100% sure about this but I think I can average 10kVPPS per month this year. And it will make me have to put the volume in. I've got a week off from school this week so with the weather the way it's been, now is as good of a time as any to get some hands churned out.

I'm going to try to get some graphs posted, I might just do it monthly. I'll try to post the Jan graph soon.
Cya.

Uggh

Ya that went shitilililiy. Dropped 3buyins. When you run bad on a weekend night its probably the worst thing ever. Its a stupid fucking cycle that goes through your mind. Something like this... wow these retards are really bad...mbn to chase flushes...I'll get there money eventually...Fuck me outdrawn again...Maybe I should quit..BUT YOU CANT QUIT cos there's a table full of 62/8 spew fish.

And the anger of getting beat makes you play bad, you see more flops, matter of time till you hit right? Alllllllll the way to value town, if only you could flop a pair. Limp re-raised, treble barrelled of a pot when you're sure he's bluffing, but you was floating the turn to shove like 80% of rivers...

I snap with AK high here unless this dickhead has decided to value shove a 9. This may look like spew and for the most part it is, but I put him on a 9 on the turn and was hoping for any over card to call or a spade and then I'd just jam when he checked. I don't even know if he'd fold a 9 tbh but this is why I quit the session. How can he over bet pot on the turn and shove the river....wtf.

Few bad beats as well but woteva. Shoulda watched Catch me if you can, I still might.
As its technically Saturday (2am) I can still have a winning day tomorrow. If not perhaps 25nl beckons, hoping not but we'll have to see.

GFY weekenders.

Chopped

Hi

Just chopped with my backer and I'm back on my own money. I'd like to say I'm glad but I could really do with some run good for the next 5k hands or so. Playing 50nl on approx $750 roll. Slightly under rolled but I've been beating this stake for 10BB/100, granted I've only played 10k hands.

The new Super League season just started, this is the name of the league for the sport Rugby - for those of you who are oblivious to one of the best sports in the world. My team the Wigan Warriors won their first match and I had some money on the game so it feels good to be taking money from the bookies, rather than the other way round. Didn't win the Euro Millions Lottery but I guess you can't have it all.

Planning to update after the session, let's get this roll going!

Part 2

Just to bring you all back up to the present day I'll fill in the details in between me being banned and now...

Luckily for me, my only real friend in the poker world happened to be luck boxing a few MTT's at the time. I'm only messing he knows his stuff and he was kind enough to stake me to play 25nl 6max on Poker Stars, and I was glad to be able to make us both some good money. He's fortunate to have been staking me because I went on my best winning run to date. I can say with 90% certainty that when I'm back on my own dime, there will be a nice run of coolers and bad beats. But... mental game is something that I've worked on in 2010, a new years resolution if you like - and unlike other years I intend to keep this one regarding not playing when I'm not on my game. Micro stakes or not, I don't give a fuck. I'm taking pride in my play and not going to let my opponents damage my graph, win rate or hourly. So getting back to the point is I don't mind if I lose because I trust myself to walk away and comeback later to try to put things right.

I grinded the roll up to enough for 50nl and ran good to start. If there's any time you really want to win flips it's for stacks when your taking a shot. I dropped the number of tables as well at 50nl to 4 or 5 from the 8 I was used to at 25nl. This helped loads and I strongly advice people who are looking to improve (not just grind up a roll), to play less tables and make a shitload of notes, this way you know what it means when some tard leads the river for $2 into an $18pot for example.AND. Why the fuck is shitload got a squiggly red line under it!?? Everybody knows shitload is a standardized unit of measurement.

All this online poker made college poker no fun as It was just so slow playing 1 table lol and the game was stupid and nothing like actually poker.. Eg. No blinds just optional 20p to see the flop. We don't go round in an order its just bet if and when you want, so position doesn't matter etc. And stacks are normally only 20BB's. So as you can imagine, it's almost a chore to play when you're used to the online style.

Im currently in a dilemma as to whether I go it alone or continue playing staked, if I was to go it alone I may have to drop back to 25nl at some point and this isn't really what I want to do.

Anyway I'm off for some food, sweet and sour chicken with rice..pretty average imo. Until next time =]....
